The Cottage in the woods, that has a life of its own. Or, should I say fits into the surrounding like a puzzle piece and completes a beautiful picture.

A Seth Peterson in Iowa

Hello good evening, good morning,

As an avid fan of Frank Lloyd Wright I love to learn and be inspired. It is better than any movie, cocktail, or funny story. I walk away with my head full of thoughts, how did he think of this, how did he build it, and then it hits me as to how he did it. What a treat it is yes, yes, like a little kid in a candy store.

People ask me, what made you think of this design of the cottage? Did you do it all? It all started back in 2016 when my wife (Kelly) surprised me with a get-a-way for the weekend. The get-a-way was to the Seth Peterson Cottage on Mirror Lake, Wisconsin. Mister Wrights last design.

When we arrived I quickly toured the structure, the grounds, the lake and asked Kelly how in the world did you find this unique little cottage? She said, while working away on her computer a pop-up appear advertising the cottage. Clicked on it, and thought lets go for it. What is crazy is there is almost a two-year wait for a reservation! So, in 2014 she made the reservation for April 2016.

As years pasted I reflected back on that little cottage, and looked into the reservations and always two-years out. And, then a thought occurred. Why not build our own cottage. A modern day Frank Lloyd Wright Seth Peterson in Iowa cottage. Kelly agreed and that is all it took to start the project.

There is a reason why people do not build Frank Lloyd Wright cottages

Even though we had a prestigious architecture firm assist with the design, many adjustments had to be undone and corrected. Simply because, of all the building codes, electrical codes, codes and more codes that didn’t exist in 1958. However, it was very cool to design electrical systems that electricians never seen, carpenters building wooden vents, molding, ceiling lights so much all by hand. What people may not know, is this structure is a labor of love, all hand made.

I have so much to tell, but this is how we got started all those years ago. Stay tuned for more tales of the Cottage, or the SethPeterson-In-Iowa.com
